Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-05-18 · Last updated 2026-05-18

This Privacy Policy explains how Skaggs Appliance LLC (doing business as ServiceTechnician) ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects information in connection with ServiceTechnician.com and any trade-specific properties we may operate (collectively, the "Site" or "Service"). It applies to Shops, technicians ("Techs"), visitors, and anyone else who interacts with the Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in our Terms of Service.

For questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at kskaggs@skaggsappliance.com.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account Information. Name, email address, password authentication metadata (we do not store plain-text passwords; authentication is handled by Supabase Auth), account role (Shop or Tech), and any login or session metadata.
  • Shop Information. Company name, business address or service location, business contact information, claim submissions, listing content, and any verification details a Shop submits.
  • Technician Profile Information. Trade, years of experience, certifications (such as EPA 608 and NATE), brands serviced, service area or location, job preferences, profile photo, and uploaded resume files.
  • Payment Information. Payment status, Stripe checkout/session IDs, Stripe customer IDs, last four digits and brand of the payment card (only if returned to us by Stripe), and amount/currency. We do not store full card numbers, CVC, or full bank account information. Card data is processed and stored by Stripe.
  • Job and Application Activity. Saved jobs, claim submissions, listings posted, click activity on listings, and any messages you send through the Service.
  • Technical Data. IP address, browser type, device identifiers, operating system, referring/exit pages, language preferences, cookies and similar technologies, and server logs related to your use of the Service.
  • Session Diagnostics. For error monitoring purposes, we use Sentry, which may record limited session interaction data (such as click events and navigation patterns) when errors occur. All text content, form inputs, and media are masked by default and not transmitted to Sentry.

We do not knowingly collect Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, dates of birth, precise geolocation, background-check data, or full financial account information. Do not submit these unless we specifically request them.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and operate accounts and profiles.
  • Display jobs, technician profiles, and search results.
  • Process listings, claims, payments, and refunds.
  • Verify claims and authorization.
  • Operate user-flagging and abuse-reporting workflows, and review reports submitted by other Users.
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, scraping, and security incidents.
  • Send transactional emails (account verification, payment receipts, claim status, listing status).
  • Surface Native Listings in third-party search engines (including Google for Jobs) via standard structured-data markup such as JSON-LD JobPosting schema.
  • Provide customer support.
  • Improve search, matching, ranking, and Site performance.
  • Create and use de-identified or aggregated information — including market reports, hiring trends, technician supply or demand by metro, salary or compensation studies, and similar industry insights — for our own business purposes and, where appropriate, for sharing or commercialization with third parties. De-identified and aggregated information is not personal information and is not subject to the rights described in Section 4.
  • Comply with legal, tax, regulatory, and contractual obligations.

We do not sell personal information for monetary value. See Section 4 below regarding California specifically.

3. How We Share Information

We share information with the following categories of recipients only as needed for the purposes above:

  • Stripe for payment processing, fraud prevention, and refund handling.
  • Supabase for database, authentication, and file storage.
  • Vercel for application hosting and edge delivery.
  • Resend for transactional and account-related email delivery.
  • Sentry for error monitoring and limited, masked session diagnostics (see Section 1).
  • Plausible Analytics for aggregate, cookie-free, privacy- respecting Site analytics. Plausible does not use cookies and does not collect personally identifiable information.
  • Job aggregation providers Adzuna and Jooble for ingesting aggregated listings, and the CareerJet job-search widget for displaying third-party listings via an embedded affiliate iframe.
  • Other Usersas necessary for the function of the Service. For example, when a Shop posts a listing, the listing content is publicly visible and may be indexed by third-party search engines via standard structured-data markup. When a Tech applies to a job, certain profile content (including resume, contact information, and application message) becomes visible to the Shop that owns the listing. Tech profiles are not indexed by search engines and are not made publicly accessible outside the Service. All access to a Tech's profile occurs through the Service and is subject to our access controls.
  • Legal and safety disclosures to comply with subpoenas, court orders, or legal processes; to enforce our Terms; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of us, our Users, or the public.
  • Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, sale of assets, or bankruptcy. We will notify Users of any such transfer affecting their information.

4. California Privacy Notice (CCPA/CPRA)

This section provides notice to California residents and applies if and when the CCPA/CPRA applies to us.

Categories Collected. In the prior 12 months, we have collected the categories listed in Section 1, which correspond to the following CCPA categories: identifiers, customer records, commercial information, internet/network activity, geolocation (general, not precise), professional employment-related information, and inferences.

Purposes. Information is collected for the purposes described in Section 2.

Sources. Information is collected directly from you, automatically through your use of the Service, and from third-party sources such as job feed providers and Stripe.

Sale or Sharing of Personal Information. We do not sell personal information for monetary value, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Sensitive Personal Information. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would trigger the right to limit such use under the CCPA.

Your Rights. Subject to verification and legal exceptions, California residents have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have collected about you.
  • Request deletion of personal information.
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Request a portable copy of personal information we have collected. We will provide it in a structured, commonly-used machine-readable format within 45 days, subject to identity verification.
  • Opt out of sale or sharing (not currently applicable; see above).
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information (not currently applicable; see above).
  • Be free from discrimination for exercising these rights.

To submit a request, email kskaggs@skaggsappliance.com from the address associated with your account. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

5. Sensitive Information

We minimize the collection of sensitive personal information. We do not request Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, dates of birth, precise GPS geolocation, background-check reports, or full financial account information at signup, profile, or claim submission. Trade certifications and work experience are profile data, but you should not upload sensitive identification documents unless we explicitly require them as part of a future verification feature.

6. Data Retention

We retain information only as long as needed for the purposes for which it was collected, to comply with legal obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements. Typical retention windows:

  • Account records: retained while the account is active. After a verified deletion request, deleted or anonymized within 30–90 days, unless retention is required for legal, tax, fraud, or dispute reasons.
  • Payment records: retained for up to 7 years, or longer where required for tax, accounting, audit, or dispute purposes.
  • Native job listings: retained while active and paid. Expired native listings may be archived or removed after a reasonable retention window.
  • Aggregated job listings: retained for up to 90 days unless refreshed by the source feed or claimed by a Shop.
  • Claim records: retained for 3–7 years given their relevance to payment, dispute, and authorization history.
  • Security and access logs: retained for 30–180 days.
  • Email logs: retained for 30–365 days, depending on the provider and purpose.

7. Deletion Requests

You may request deletion of your profile or account information at any time by emailing kskaggs@skaggsappliance.com. We will delete or anonymize the requested information unless retention is required for fraud prevention, payment records, tax compliance, dispute resolution, legal obligations, or to protect the integrity of the Service.

Public-facing job records and claim history may be retained, anonymized, or hidden — rather than fully deleted — when needed for transactional, audit, or business-record purposes. We will tell you what we are unable to delete and why.

8. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, session management, security, and basic analytics. Our analytics provider (Plausible) does not use cookies and does not collect personally identifiable information. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may impair Site functionality. If we add advertising or cross-site tracking technologies in the future, we will update this Policy and provide any required opt-out controls.

9. Children

The Service is not intended for individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact kskaggs@skaggsappliance.com and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. Authentication and database services are provided through Supabase. Payment card data is processed by Stripe and is not stored by us. API keys, secrets, and credentials are stored outside of source-control repositories. Access to production data is limited to operational need.

Resume and photo storage.Resume files and profile photos uploaded by Techs are stored privately in Supabase Storage. Resumes are accessible only via time-limited signed URLs generated when a Shop has an active application connection with the Tech. Profile photos become visible to a Shop once the Tech has applied to one of that Shop's listings.

Breach notification. If we discover a security breach that compromises personal information, we will notify affected Users without unreasonable delay and consistent with applicable law and the legitimate needs of any law enforcement investigation.

No system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to or stored by the Service. Notify us at kskaggs@skaggsappliance.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

11. International Users

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

12. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service contains links to third-party websites, including aggregated job listings that link out to source sites. Those third parties operate under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content, conduct, or practices.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on the Site with a revised "Last Updated" date. Material changes may be communicated by email or in-app notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
